Christmas Crafting: Kahlúa & Vanilla Extract

Christmas crafting continues with Vanilla extract and Kahlúa!
Super easy and delicious recipes.

For the Kahlúa:

Mix together 2 cups white sugar and 2 cups brown sugar in 4 cups of boiling water until dissolved.

Add 1/2 cup of instant coffee and stir until dissolved. Slice open one vanilla bean and scrape the vanilla paste into the sugar water.

Add  3  cups  of  vodka  –  we  used  Prairie  Organic.

Ladle the mixture into clean and sterilized bottles. We used a couple of old whiskey bottles and a mason jar for what was left over.

With the other vanilla beans, we started a new batch of vanilla extract. Just vanilla beans (split open) and vodka. The extract will need to sit for 6-12 months – but the Kahlúa will be ready in a couple of weeks!

I really like the simplicity of the recipes. You can find the  recipe for the Kahlúa at Lovely Greens website. If you have time to poke around there, she has an extensive amount of information on gardening and crafting all kinds of things!
