Spring

DSCN3667

The mail has been delivered, and the seeds are here…waiting. As am I.

Living in New England divides the year into sowing, growth, harvest and rest. Rest is just about over and the potential of the season spreads before us like a dream. Full of hope and possibility, the necessary work will be done, but the real magic of season will happen all on its own.  We help things along in annual beds, but the bulk of the garden is perennial and will continue: Fruit trees, nuts, berries, Sea Kale, herbs and flowers, etc.

The winter is thawing, the first flowers of spring are poking up through the ground, and the birds have returned. They sing in the mornings, as if they are privy to some secret, as if the forecast for snow is a lie and the record cold temperatures aren’t true.

We wait with anticipation as each returns to us for another season…
