Feeling the dirt in my hands again, is like awakening from a dream of winter. The sunlight falls on me and on the garden and warms us both. Finally, spring has arrived.
We planted potatoes today, the peas are sprouting, the fruit and nut trees and berry bushes are all budding. Sorrel, Horseradish, Rhubarb, Sea Kale, are all coming in.
Indoors, the San Marzano tomatoes are growing and some are starting their second leaves, most of the peppers are also up and starting to get second leaves and the Tomatillos are just sprouting through the soil. I also started a tray of Oregano, Chive, Basil, Cilantro, Flat leaf Parsley, to bulk up the herb spiral and Peppermint.
We tried a new recipe for Bread Pudding using coconut milk/oil and gluten free raisin bread.
We tried a new, delicious gluten free Sake:
We added our first animal into our urban garden (other than our little dog). One small rabbit that eats and produces fertilizer constantly! He’s an adorable addition to our family and helps to close the circle of providing our own fertilizer and not purchasing it each year. Benjamin:
One thing I learned this week: when a rabbit stretches out on its side and falls asleep – it means he is perfectly content. If there is the same measurement for dogs – Pippin is perfectly content, stretched out on the meditation cushion.
As the long weekend ends, I would dare say that we could use a similar measurement for the humans in the house – all is well and we are content to start the new week.
Until next time!
