It’s not you. It’s me.

It’s not you. It’s me…

I have been disillusioned with our relationship for a long time and wasn’t sure how to tell you. I promise not to call you names and there is no point in arguing about this because my mind is made up. I’m leaving. As much as I enjoy the posts of some ridiculously talented photographers, crafters, chefs and bakers and the pictures of family and friends, the amount of other garbage that comes by my eyes in one day is enough to fill a lifetime. I’ll admit that, although it has been handy to have every single person I know and all of their lives spread before my eyes each day (completely taking away any responsibility on my part to keep in touch), I miss some things – particularly a quality of life that used to exist before this mad rush that social media creates…

I miss phone calls and letters or invitations in the mail – handwritten with thought and caring.

I miss coffee and discussion in person, preferably at a book store.

I miss creativity – mine.  For example:  the book I’m supposed to be writing and music I should be making.

I miss all the time I used to spend learning – like the Herbalist class I’m taking online.

I miss gardening too – not your fault, but just stating the fact the last month of winter has been endless. I know Gardening will have to wait until June when New England finally defrosts.

I’ll admit that I will have to make an effort now to keep in touch with family and friends, and I promise to do my best without automated reminders every five seconds. I am gathering together your websites, addresses, phone numbers, etc. and will keep in touch. I am sure l will need help.  I am a little rusty at this!

If you want to keep in touch, I am actually at the very same land line  we’ve had for 25 years – or, if you prefer,  I finally caught up with technology and have a new cell phone and number  (with texting and everything – aren’t you impressed?)   If you need my number, please email me at stillsleepless@gmail.com .  I’ll be around until  next Sunday and then I will follow through on my decision to delete my facebook account and cut ties as much as possible with social media.

You see, it’s not you.  It really is me and my attention span, the way I get caught up in scrolling, scrolling, scrolling just in case I missed something important.  Turns out, I was already missing it.  And this is just a symptom of the problem. I’m going to continue to blog here, but, social media will be done, at least for now.

I’m going to live wild and free like the old days, a little more connected because of technology and hopefully a little less controlled and distracted by it. I’m looking forward to wandering around and picking flowers and seeing just what life has in store for me…

I look forward to hearing from you!
