As part of my studies at the Herbal Academy of New England, I am submitting a recipe that I have tried for each Unit. For Unit 5 I made a recipe called Fire Cider. The recipe came from a book by Rosemary Gladstone at Sage Mountain in Vermont. She is not the author of the recipe, because it has existed for a very long time as a home remedy and she is just sharing her version of it.
For my version, I combined the ingredients with warmed apple cider vinegar and added 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper. It wasn’t spicy enough for me, so I added another 1/4 tsp and it was perfect. Also, I was surprised at how delicious it is right from the first mixing. I am waiting to add the honey at the end because I’m not sure I will want it sweet at all.
It will be ready after 3-4 weeks to use as medicine (an immune boosting combination of foods) or even as a salad dressing. I can only imagine how amazing the flavor will be after some time has passed.
